Arya Organic

Arya Organic

A big suprise from Hifiman: The Arya, a successful series of headphones for many years that had only one "flaw" left worth talking about: There was too much energy in the treble for some, and the mids were a smidge too thin. Hifiman took this feedback and came out with the Organic: A bit more measured in the high-end, a bit fuller in the mid section, but still with a fantastic resolution and stage presentation. An absolute allrounder.

Hifiman did it again.

The Arya lineup has been a favorite amongst Hifi enthusiasts, because it has been a true Hifi-headphone from the beginning - no bass cannon, a lot of detail in the treble, great stage width and presentation that got reviewers to call it a planar HD800S - just better. Better bass, more precise placement and separation of elements and a much more even frequency curve.

So, how do you improve upon this?

Arya has always been a bit picky about the amp that you connect it to. Not exceedingly picky, but you couldn't use any old box. The Organic makes things easier: at just 16 Ohms impedance and 94dB efficiency you pretty much don't need to worry if your amp will provide enough juice.

The treble energy that made the Arya so great for details and staging was also a bit much for some. Organic in this case means a more organic sound, one that is a bit subdued in the treble to sound more realistic - also more mids, to make it more lifelike - while trying to keep the same stage presentation and amount of detail.

And they seem to have been successful:

Headfonia.com:

Hifiman took their highly regarded Arya SE and gave it some juice for bass, and more color in mids & treble. The result is a very enjoyable, easily likable headphone after the Arya SE, without losing any technical performance.

Ear-fidelity.com:

The Arya Organic is a strong contender for the “Product Of The Year” award as of now, and it is going to be hugely successful, I’m sure about that. We said it a few times in the past, but they really give us all the reason in the world to do so, so here it is: Good job HiFiMAN.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

What does this mean?

The black line is something that could be called the „ideal“ curve of what a headphone should sound like. The Harman Research Group has a range of scientific studies around audio and the human perception of it - one of which was, how should a headphone sound like to be favored by a majority of people, no matter the age or other demographic variables? This result is called the Harman target.

From left to right we have the sub bass, bass, mids and then the curve finally tilts upward where the treble begins - this part of the frequency spectrum gets amplified naturally by the shape of the human ear.

The Arya Organic did not lose any resolution in the treble because the treble did not get turned down in comparison to previous Aryas - Hifiman gave it a considerable boost in the bass though, which balances out the treble region nicely and gives it the "organic" sound that it is named after. A win in my books.
