For the past decade, Audeze's LCD series has set the standard for planar magnetic headphone performance. Starting with the LCD-2 that ushered in a new era of planar technology in 2009, then the LCD-3 in 2011 and LCD-4 in 2015. With the LCD-5, everything has been improved - drivers, earpads, frame design - to set a new standard for performance and comfort.
Open-back over-ear planar reference with maximum resolution
The LCD-5 sets a new benchmark for precision. Its drivers combine award-winning Fluxor™ magnets and updated Fazor™ waveguides with new patent-pending Parallel Uniforce™ voice coils. By using parallel traces of varying widths, impedance stays low while varying current density expands voltage headroom. The resulting uniform force lowers distortion, improves diaphragm control, and delivers higher sonic resolution.
Every aspect of the LCD-5’s acoustic design was optimized for pin-point imaging and an exceptionally clean sound. Newly shaped earpads and acoustically transparent mesh minimize reflections and resonances, while the Parallel Uniforce™ coil creates more space between magnets for improved frequency response and a more open soundstage. New low-profile Fazor™ waveguides further reduce diffraction and interactions with the ear.
At only 420 g, the LCD-5 is built for hours of listening. Every part was redesigned using materials like magnesium, aluminum, and acetate for low weight and high rigidity. Premium leather and carbon fiber bring everything together into a package of fine craftsmanship, hand-assembled in Audeze’s California workshop.
The newly molded, inward-tapered earpad shape reduces unwanted resonances and internal reflections. Its ergonomic fit naturally guides the headphone into the optimal listening position. The pads use a smaller contact area than standard designs to reduce fatigue, while still providing an excellent seal across many head shapes and sizes.
The LCD-5 cable is tuned with directional high-purity OCC copper strands to provide a low-capacitance, low-resistance signal path for outstanding clarity and precision. It ships with a 4-pin XLR balanced cable as standard and can also be used with the single-ended adapter.
