The ZMF Tessidera combines artisan wood craftsmanship with advanced planar technology, delivering a musical, dynamic sound with exceptional naturalness.
Planar magnetic headphone with the most technologically integrated design in ZMF history
Tessidera is ZMF's new planar magnetic headphone, bringing together artisan woodworking, acoustic research, and platform-level integration more closely than any previous ZMF design. Its name complements the flagship Caldera and draws from two sources: tessera, the interlocking tiles of classical mosaic craftsmanship, and tessitura, the musical term for the range in which an instrument resonates most naturally.
The Tessidera debuts in rich Canarywood with Black Rod and Grille, brown premium mesh cloth, and the new ZMF Acoustic Matrix in matching Chocolate Brown.
Like its volcanic sibling, the Tessidera embodies ZMF's signature marriage of craftsmanship and acoustic innovation.
Five technologies, one cohesive system
The Tessidera combines five technologies that are designed to function not as isolated features, but as one integrated acoustic system.
CAMS, ADS, ZAM, SRS, and the Caldera Pad System
- CAMS (Caldera Asymmetrical Magnet Structure): Dual-sided trapezoidal N52 neodymium magnets create even magnetic tension across the diaphragm while directing airflow toward the ear with controlled diffusion.
- ADS (Atrium Damping System): ZMF's patent-pending rear damping architecture manages pressure and airflow behind the driver, reducing back-wave cancellation and enhancing perceived depth.
- ZAM (ZMF Acoustic Matrix): The new lattice diffusion system reduces standing waves and smooths the treble region while preserving dynamics.
- SRS (Soundboard Resonator System): The new wood resonator adds punch, controls the midrange, and brings instrumental resonance to the planar platform.
- ZMF Caldera Pad System: The Caldera pads use an inside-out fluted design to channel airflow from the membrane directly to the ear, supporting dimensionality and spatial presentation.
What this system is designed to achieve
Together, these technologies tackle the challenges many planar magnetic headphones face, delivering explosive dynamics, tactile slam, and tonal richness often associated with dynamic drivers, while preserving speed, resolution, planar precision, and the natural decay that gives ZMF headphones their distinctive musical timbre.
The Tessidera features a newly developed planar driver with a diaphragm thickness of just 1 micron, thinner than the Caldera's 2-micron design. With 35 ohms impedance, thicker traces, and ZMF's TPE construction with silver plating, the driver offers a smoother and more accessible presentation across a broader range of amplifiers.
Sonically, the Tessidera presents a different expression of ZMF's planar vision: liquid, lush, and euphonic, without drifting into softness or boredom. Where the Caldera is more energetic and bombastic, the Tessidera leans into refined musicality, combining smooth treble extension, punchy transients, and a cohesive midrange-to-treble presentation.
The result is not a laid-back headphone, but a lush, engaging, and long-session-friendly listen that keeps the impact and dynamics ZMF is known for while delivering them with greater smoothness and refinement.
True to ZMF tradition, every Tessidera is handcrafted in the United States and built around the company's signature hardwood cups, available in a range of premium wood species.
