High-end preamp and headphone amplifier with neutral precision and extensive connectivity.
Powerful balanced headphone amplifier with 256-step relay volume control
The Violectric HPA V550 PRO is a high-end analog headphone amplifier with an excellent preamplifier section and an exceptionally wide range of functions. It combines outstanding technical performance, excellent sound quality and superb workmanship at the highest manufacturing level.
Thanks to its integrated PRE-GAIN circuit, the amplifier can be optimally adapted to the requirements of a wide variety of headphones. Even demanding designs such as planar magnetic headphones can be driven effortlessly via the balanced and the two unbalanced headphone outputs.
Up to three analog stereo sources can be connected via one XLR and two RCA inputs. In addition, the HPA V550 PRO offers both a balanced and an unbalanced line output. High-quality ALPS RK27 potentiometers are used for volume and balance adjustment.
Volume control in the HPA V550 PRO is implemented via a 256-step reed relay circuit for maximum precision, perfect channel balance and uncompromising control.
A beautifully crafted solid metal remote control is included for maximum convenience in everyday use.
Inputs & Outputs
- Analog inputs: 2x RCA unbalanced, 1x XLR balanced
- Input selection: switchable from the front panel
- Headphone outputs: 6.3 mm jack, 4-pin XLR, 4.4 mm Pentaconn
- Analog outputs: 1x RCA unbalanced, 1x XLR balanced
- Output selection: front panel HEAD / MUTE / LINE, rear panel Line Pre / Post
Relay Controlled Attenuator
The volume of the V550 PRO is controlled by a 256-step reed relay attenuator. This design ensures perfect channel matching, no scratching noise, minimal crosstalk and outstanding long-term stability, since only precision resistors are placed in the signal path. For a no-compromise headphone amplifier, this is one of the best possible approaches to volume control.
Balanced Headphone Outputs
In balanced headphone operation, channel separation is improved even further. The result is an especially open, precise and clean presentation. Typical connectors are 4-pin XLR and 4.4 mm Pentaconn. True balanced operation requires significantly greater engineering effort, including four integrated power amplifier stages.
PRE-GAIN
Source devices can deliver very different signal levels, while headphones vary widely in sensitivity. The PRE-GAIN system compensates for these differences and optimizes the amplifier for virtually any pairing. The result is minimal noise, lowest distortion and the best possible channel balance. Adjustment is available in 7 steps: -18, -12, -6, 0, +6, +12, +18 dB.
Perfect Headphone Protection
Multiple protection circuits ensure safe operation at all times: delayed power-on, instant power-off, DC monitoring, thermal protection and overload monitoring. This effectively protects connected headphones from undefined operating states and harmful voltage conditions.
Violectric Technology
- Lowest noise floor thanks to very low internal gain
- High output voltage due to an internal 50-volt operating voltage
- High output power for demanding and low-impedance headphones
- High damping factor thanks to extremely low output impedance
- Ideal for high-impedance headphones, low-impedance models and planar magnetics
