Rockna Wavelight DAC

Discrete R2R DAC with FPGA processing, flexible filters and app control

The Rockna Wavelight DAC is based on a fully discrete R2R ladder architecture, controlled by a powerful FPGA platform. Unlike conventional DAC chips, this approach allows complete control over timing, filtering and overall sonic character.

At its core is a Xilinx Spartan7 FPGA, operating with 60-bit internal precision and extremely low jitter. This enables a level of control and resolution that is not achievable with standard DAC solutions.

One of the key strengths lies in the filter section. Users can choose between modes such as NOS, Linear Phase, Minimum Phase and Hybrid, each shaping the sound from maximum precision to a smoother, more analog-like presentation.

The FIR filters are based on Parks-McClellan algorithms, ensuring extremely clean signal processing with minimal ripple and strong out-of-band attenuation – resulting in precise transients, improved separation and stable imaging.

Control is handled conveniently via app. Inputs, filters and volume can be adjusted from the listening position using the iOS or Android app. Firmware updates are available via USB or Bluetooth.

The result is a DAC that combines technical precision with musical flexibility, allowing fine tuning from analytical to organic without losing coherence.
