Hybrid tube amplifier for electrostatic STAX earspeakers
The STAX SRM-700T is a high-end hybrid driver unit for electrostatic headphones, combining a precise FET input stage with a musical vacuum-tube output stage. It is an especially compelling amplifier for listeners who want the openness, speed and transparency of STAX with a slightly warmer, more physical and more spacious presentation.
For the output stage, STAX uses 6SN7 tubes, a classic and powerful dual triode valued for its linear behavior and natural sonic character. The circuit is fully balanced from input to output and avoids coupling capacitors throughout the signal path. High-quality components such as WIMA film capacitors and non-inductive VISHAY resistors contribute to clean, fast and wide-band signal handling.
Sonically, the SRM-700T preserves the electrostatic STAX signature while adding a welcome degree of warmth and body. Vocals sound organic and present, instruments gain substance, and the spatial presentation remains open, airy and precise. Especially with Lambda models, SR-007, SR-009S or SR-X9000, the result is a highly musical, finely resolved and fatigue-free listening experience.
Mechanically, the SRM-700T is built to a very high standard. Newly developed aluminum feet with vibration-damping material help reduce mechanical influence, while the shielded volume control minimizes noise. A rear-panel bypass switch allows the volume and balance controls to be bypassed when level control is handled by a high-quality source or preamplifier.
With balanced XLR input, unbalanced RCA input and RCA parallel output, the SRM-700T integrates flexibly into high-end hi-fi and desktop systems.
