Ferrum BROEN

High-End Streaming Transport for uncompromising digital playback

The Ferrum BROEN is a dedicated Network Streaming Transport designed for high-quality external DACs. Instead of combining DAC, preamplifier and analogue circuitry in a single chassis, Ferrum focuses entirely on the digital source: streaming, signal processing, reclocking and the cleanest possible transfer to the downstream D/A converter.

At its heart is Ferrum’s SERCE Digital-to-Digital module with FPGA-based reclocking, ultra-low-jitter clocks and galvanically isolated audio outputs. BROEN therefore becomes the ideal digital front end for WANDLA and other high-end DACs.

SERCE DDC – clean data for your DAC

Ferrum strictly separates the streaming and control hardware from the actual digital output stage. The specially developed SERCE DDC processes and reclocks the signal before it leaves BROEN for the DAC.

  • FPGA-based reclocking
  • ultra-low-jitter audio clocks
  • galvanic isolation of all audio outputs
  • clean, dedicated VBUS supply for the USB DAC outputs
  • separation of streaming and audio sections

The approach is deliberately purist: BROEN is not designed to impose its own sonic character, but to provide the DAC with the best possible operating conditions.

Volumio 4 – convenient streaming

Ferrum uses Volumio OS 4 as its software platform, combining specialized high-end hardware with a versatile and intuitive streaming interface.

  • Spotify & Spotify Connect
  • TIDAL & TIDAL Connect
  • Qobuz
  • AirPlay
  • UPnP / DLNA
  • Internet radio
  • Bluetooth A2DP
  • NAS and USB playback
  • CD playback and ripping
  • multiroom with up to six synchronized zones

BROEN can be controlled via the Volumio app for iOS and Android or conveniently through a web browser.

Local music directly inside BROEN

In addition to streaming services, BROEN can also operate as a local music server. Inside the chassis is a slot for an M.2 NVMe SSD in 80 or 110 mm format.

Alternatively, BROEN can play music from USB storage or a NAS. Supported formats include FLAC, WAV, ALAC, APE, AAC, MP3, WMA and DSD.

Digital connectivity for virtually any DAC

Ferrum equips BROEN with an unusually comprehensive selection of digital outputs:

  • AES/EBU via XLR
  • coaxial S/PDIF
  • optical S/PDIF
  • I²S via HDMI with configurable pin assignment
  • USB-A DAC output
  • USB-C DAC output
  • HDMI video output
  • Trigger In / Out

The configurable I²S pin assignment is particularly useful, allowing BROEN to adapt to different I²S implementations used by various DAC manufacturers.

Wi-Fi, Ethernet or fibre

BROEN supports dual-band 2.4 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi and also features a modular SFP slot. Depending on the module used, the streamer can be connected via conventional RJ45 Ethernet or fibre.

An optical connection offers the additional advantage of complete electrical isolation between the network and the audio system.

Perfect with WANDLA and HYPSOS

With Ferrum Streaming Control Technology (FSCT), BROEN integrates particularly closely with Ferrum WANDLA. Track and artist information can be displayed on WANDLA, while playback can also be controlled from it.

The power supply can additionally be upgraded with Ferrum HYPSOS. With HYPSOS Dual Output, BROEN and WANDLA can even be powered together from a single HYPSOS.

What the press says about Ferrum BROEN

“precise, controlled, and full-bodied”

Soundnews – Audio Video Show Warsaw 2025

Soundnews heard BROEN as part of a Ferrum system with active ATC SCM100SL speakers and described the presentation as precise, controlled and full-bodied.

What Hi-Fi? particularly highlights SERCE DDC, ultra-low-jitter clocks, galvanic isolation and the option of optical networking.

Ferrum BROEN Network Transport

HiFi.blog sees BROEN as a dedicated high-end digital source and emphasizes its combination of reclocking, isolation, extensive connectivity and WANDLA integration.

Ferrum BROEN – Digital-Only Streaming Source

Who is the Ferrum BROEN for?

BROEN is aimed at listeners who already own a high-quality DAC and deliberately want to keep streaming transport and D/A conversion separate.

  • ideal for Ferrum WANDLA, WANDLA HP and WANDLA GoldenSound Edition
  • for high-end DACs from other manufacturers
  • for systems focused on jitter control and electrical isolation
  • for streaming as well as large local music libraries

Ferrum BROEN – the digital source for the Ferrum system

BROEN completes Ferrum’s high-end ecosystem precisely where a dedicated digital source had been missing. SERCE DDC, reclocking, galvanic isolation, flexible network options and Volumio 4 make it an uncompromising streaming transport for WANDLA and high-end DACs from other manufacturers.

For anyone who does not want another all-in-one solution, but rather a purpose-built digital source for a high-quality DAC, BROEN is exactly the right tool.
