The Eversolo DMP-A8 Master Edition Gen 2 inherits the entire platform of the DMP-A8 Gen 2 – the AK4499EXEQ/AK4191EQ conversion section, the 8.6-inch touchscreen, the octa-core processor with 8 GB of DDR5 – and adds exactly the components that make the difference in the reference class.

At its core is an internal OCXO+PLL master clock, complemented by an external 10 MHz clock input for anyone wanting to lock their system to a standalone reference clock – a feature usually reserved for professional studio gear. There's also a quiet, built-in CD drive with its own error correction, playing CDs directly or ripping them straight to the network, no separate player required.

Sonically the Master Edition also benefits from Eversolo's own evotune™ Pro room correction with a 20-band equaliser, up to 16× upsampling, and the same fully balanced, R-2R-controlled preamp as the standard model. Because of the CD drive, the chassis is slightly taller at 98.5 mm versus the A8 Gen 2's 88 mm – every other connection and networking feature (Wi-Fi 6, SFP fibre, Bluetooth 5.4) stays identical.

Anyone needing neither the CD drive nor an external clock input is better served by the regular DMP-A8 Gen 2 at a lower price. Anyone wanting still more will find Eversolo's outright flagship in the DMP-A10.
