The M series' dual-mono DAC technology, in a compact, accessible package

The Matrix Audio MS-1c is the logical answer to the question of how to translate the M series' dual-mono DAC technology into a more compact, more accessible chassis. Instead of the full-size cases of the MS-1 and MS-1 Pre, you get a noticeably smaller and lighter unit – while the core of the DAC section remains unchanged.

The MS-1c relies on the same dual combination of an AK4191 digital modulator and an AK4499 converter per channel in a genuine dual-mono architecture. On the analogue side it keeps things simple: XLR and RCA line outputs only, no preamp or phono section, built for a direct connection into a preamp or power amp. On the digital side, though, the MS-1c is well equipped, adding AES/EBU alongside optical, coaxial, I2S-LVDS and a USB DAC input rated up to PCM 32bit/768kHz and DSD 24.58MHz.

The MS-1c is controlled through the MA Remote app, is Roon Ready certified, and supports AirPlay 2, Audirvana, UPnP, plus Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz and vTuner. An internal NVMe SSD slot lets you store local music collections right inside the unit – available in black or silver.

That makes the MS-1c the compact, more affordable member of the M series: built on the same DAC foundation as the MS-1 and MS-1 Pre, minus their preamp functionality, in a much more manageable footprint.
