Thorens, founded in Switzerland in 1883, popularised the sprung-subchassis turntable with the TD 150 of 1965 – the design that decouples platter and tonearm from the rest of the deck. Based today in Bergisch Gladbach, Germany, Thorens carries that idea forward in the TD 1500 and TD 1600, alongside modern direct-drive models.
