Network streamer on an AMD ZYNQ FPGA with its own lightweight Linux, Roon Ready, UPnP, DLNA, OpenHome, AirPlay, Tidal, Qobuz and Spotify. Outputs I²S over HDMI – the input SuperVOX and Rockna DACs like best – plus coaxial; accepts AES/EBU, Toslink, coaxial and USB and converts them. Linear power supply, 3-inch IPS display, full aluminium, 6 kg.
Streamer and digital interface with I²S – built for SuperVOX and Rockna
The SuperHUB is two devices in one: a network streamer and a digital interface that translates any digital source into I²S. I²S over HDMI is the connection SuperVOX and the Rockna DACs are built for – without the packaging of S/PDIF or USB, with separate lines for clock and data. If you own a SuperVOX or a Wavelight, this gives you the input that interferes least.
Inside works an AMD ZYNQ 7000 system with a programmable clock and a purpose-built, stripped-down Linux that does nothing but move music. Connection is over gigabit Ethernet; Roon Ready, UPnP, DLNA, OpenHome, AirPlay, Spotify, Tidal and Qobuz are on board. Inputs: USB-B from a computer, USB-A for storage, AES/EBU, Toslink and coaxial. Outputs: I²S (HDMI) and coaxial. The power supply is linear, the chassis is machined from a block of aluminium, the 3-inch IPS display shows format and sample rate.
hi-fi+ listened to the SuperHUB through a Rockna Wavedream and was struck above all by one thing: that a streamer does not “stream” but simply adds nothing. Alan Sircom’s phrase for that is below.
hi-fi+, Alan Sircom, January 2025
„It has that ‘stripping away layers’ presentation that makes the streamed audio sound more honest, more direct, snappier, more dynamic, and better focused.“
Heard through a Rockna Wavedream; the only full review so far.
„this is one of the best implementations of upsampling I’ve heard from a streamer, so I’m giving the SuperHUB the nod.“
For owners of a SuperVOX or a Rockna DAC who want to use the I²S input, and for anyone looking for a streamer that adds no sound and forces no app – Roon, UPnP or AirPlay will do. If you only want Spotify Connect and a screen, a WiiM or EverSolo serves you for a fraction. There is no DAC built in.
