A pure network transport for anyone who has already found their DAC
The Matrix Audio NT-1 deliberately skips any analogue output stage and instead focuses entirely on one job: delivering music data from the network to an external D/A converter as cleanly and with as little jitter as possible. For anyone who already owns a DAC they're happy with, this is the most consistent way to build a high-end streamer.
At its core sits a 60-watt toroidal transformer, providing an especially stable, quiet power supply for the digital circuitry – a detail that has a direct impact on transmission quality. That's complemented by a 10MHz clock output for external reference timing and an SFP network expansion slot, which lets you connect the streamer to your home network over fibre with full galvanic isolation – an effective way to keep high-frequency network noise out of the signal path.
On the digital output side, the NT-1 offers coaxial, optical and AES/EBU (PCM 192kHz, DSD 2.8MHz DoP), plus I2S-LVDS for lossless transfer up to PCM 768kHz/DSD 24.58MHz and a USB DAC output. Control runs through the MA Remote app; Roon Ready, AirPlay 2, Audirvana and UPnP are supported, along with Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz and vTuner. An NVMe SSD slot allows local music storage right inside the unit.
Within the Matrix Audio family, the NT-1 is the larger, more comprehensively equipped sibling of the TT-1, adding the 10MHz clock and SFP expansion for extra flexibility. Paired with the ND-1 as an external DAC, it forms a complete two-box chain of pure transport and pure converter.
„I feel the Matrix hits a sweet spot as an ultimate audiophile streaming transport (without going into insane-money territory).“
