300B tube amplifier for headphones and speakers – Feliks Audio’s new flagship, with display and remote control

The EOS is Feliks Audio’s new flagship and, according to the manufacturer, its first amplifier to drive both headphones and speakers. It draws on more than a quarter of a century of experience: Feliks has been building tube amplifiers since 1998, first for stereo systems and long before series production of headphone amplifiers began. The output stage uses two 300B triodes, driven by two CV181 (6SN7).

At the headphone output, the EOS delivers up to 5 W at 1 % THD (8 W maximum), and up to 4 W (6 W maximum) at the speaker terminals. That is enough for power-hungry headphones, while its low output impedance keeps it quiet with sensitive headphones and IEMs from 10 ohms. According to Feliks, it has the widest frequency range and the lowest distortion of any Feliks amplifier; the manufacturer has not yet published detailed measurements.

The display is new for Feliks. It shows the input, output and gain setting as well as a VU meter – but above all the condition of the amplifier: operating voltages, temperature and tube health. A diagnostic check runs at the press of a button. Feliks aims to protect the amplifier’s longevity and keep your listening sessions free of interruptions.

You operate the EOS with buttons on the unit or the supplied remote control: inputs and gain settings can be switched from your listening position, and the volume is set by a motorised potentiometer. You switch between headphones and speakers without re-plugging anything – simply by selecting the matching gain setting.

Two sources connect via RCA and one via balanced XLR. Headphones have 6.3 mm and 4-pin XLR outputs, and there are speaker terminals plus a preamp output in RCA and XLR. Feliks has clearly improved the preamp stage over its earlier models in bandwidth and noise, so the EOS can also drive a power amplifier or active speakers.

The EOS is made by Feliks Audio in Poland, with the same care in craftsmanship the company is known for. The chassis comes in Feliks’ two most popular woods, oak and American walnut. With a footprint of 47 × 47 cm and a weight of 26 kg, it needs a permanent place in your listening room.

Who is the EOS for?

For anyone who wants one tube amplifier to do several jobs: powerful enough for demanding headphones, quiet enough for sensitive headphones and IEMs, and an amplifier and preamp for efficient loudspeakers, conveniently controlled by remote. If you only listen on headphones and want the largest power reserve, the Envy Susvara Edition is an alternative; for electrostatic headphones, the Bliss is the one.
