iFi NEO iDSD 3
The hub for desk and hi-fi system – with a refined version of the iDSD Diablo 2 amplifier stage
The NEO iDSD 3 is the third generation of iFi’s desktop all-rounder and replaces the NEO iDSD 2. It combines DAC, headphone amplifier and preamp in a chassis that sits upright or flat and reports through a two-inch rotating colour display. Sources connect via USB-B, coaxial and optical S/PDIF, Bluetooth 5.4 – or analogue through the new RCA input, which takes a turntable with phono stage, for example.
The DAC section is built around a Burr-Brown chipset and routes PCM and DSD through separate paths so that DSD is never converted to PCM. PCM is handled up to 768 kHz, DSD up to DSD512; a 10 MHz input accepts an external master clock. The amplifier is a modified version of the iDSD Diablo 2 stage and delivers 2,532 mW into 64 ohms from the balanced 4.4 mm output or 2,244 mW into 32 ohms via 6.3 mm – ample headroom for hard-to-drive planar and high-impedance headphones. Four gain settings, from iEMatch (−12 dB) to Nitro (+16 dB), cover the range down to sensitive in-ears.
As a preamp the NEO iDSD 3 provides up to 19.5 V balanced over XLR or 10.5 V over RCA, or a fixed output level for a downstream integrated amplifier. Over Bluetooth it receives aptX Lossless, LDAC and LHDC. Sound shaping is switchable: XBass, Presence and XSpace, plus selectable digital filters. An aluminium remote, an iPower 2 supply and a stand are included; firmware updates arrive through the iFi Nexis app.

Who is this for?
For the desk or the shelf when one unit has to do it all: headphones up to HE1000 or Arya class, active speakers over XLR, a turntable on the RCA input and a phone over Bluetooth. If you are after a pure tube headphone amp or a DAC without amplification, Cayin, Ferrum and Violectric offer more specialised units.
