Burson Soloist Voyager

Dual-mono Class A headphone amplifier and preamp with 10 W via XLR

The Soloist Voyager is the large headphone amplifier and preamp from Burson Audio. Two independent amplifiers, one per channel and each with its own power supply, run in Class A. Burson specifies 10 W into 32 Ω and 1.3 W into 300 Ω via XLR. The Soloist has no DAC: your sources connect to its four analogue inputs (2× XLR, 2× RCA), and via XLR and RCA it can also drive power amplifiers or active speakers.

Burson Soloist Voyager: inside view

Good to know: The Soloist Voyager runs warm. Soundnews measured around 60 °C on the bottom plate and the side heatsinks. Place it in the open rather than in a closed cabinet.

What the press says

Soundnews

The review awards it the Gold Award and highlights its resolution, dynamics and control over the Hifiman Susvara. It criticises the heat and a faint residual noise with very sensitive IEMs when the music is paused. It explicitly recommends the Deluxe version.

The Ear

Editor’s Choice 2024, listened to mainly with the Hifiman Susvara. The review praises its dynamics and detail, especially with rock and electronic music. It criticises that the display cannot be switched off, that the headphone outputs have no balance control and that the top of the chassis gets hot.

Who is the Soloist Voyager for?

For anyone who wants to run demanding planar or dynamic headphones from a large amplifier and also use it as a preamp. With very sensitive IEMs, the Soloist Stellar and Soloist Prime, with their dedicated IEM stages, are the better choice.
