Fully balanced FPGA converter with a 33-level delta-sigma modulator at 11.3/12.3 MHz, Femtovox clocking, discrete output stage and linear power supply. Inputs USB, I²S (HDMI) and S/PDIF, outputs XLR and RCA. No headphone output – that is what the SuperHEAD is for.
Rockna’s FPGA converter, rethought – at a third of the price
The SuperVOX is neither a chip DAC nor an R2R DAC. The entire conversion runs as software in an AMD Artix FPGA: a fifth-order delta-sigma modulator with 36-bit precision and 33 output levels, operating at 11.3 or 12.3 MHz. It is the same way of thinking as at Rockna, but with a different outcome: no resistor ladder, but a multibit DSD signal that a discrete output stage translates into analogue.
The Femtovox clock management comes from the Rockna toolbox, the power supply is linear, the internal wiring silver-plated copper. Three upsampling filters (minimum, hybrid, linear) and a bypassable 256-step digital volume control allow direct connection to a power amplifier. Full-aluminium chassis, matt black or matt silver, matching SuperHEAD and SuperHUB.
What the SuperVOX does not have: a headphone output. For headphones you add the SuperHEAD – or any other amplifier with XLR or RCA inputs. What it does have: the only in-depth review so far places it sonically closer to Rockna’s Wavedream Reference Signature than to the Wavelight – at a third of the Wavelight’s price.
Soundnews, Sandu Vitalie, June 2026
„It’s almost a paradox, but this software-defined DAC is, in a way, more ‘musical,’ more real, and much smoother and sweeter-sounding than most R2R ladder DACs I’ve come across.“
The only full review so far; the author visited the factory in Suceava in early 2026.
Soundnews, on the comparison with Rockna
„if you’re still rocking a Rockna Wavelight, there’s just more music on the SuperVOX, albeit without the hard-pounding nature of Rockna’s creations.“
For anyone who wants the Rockna approach without paying the Rockna price – and who does not need a headphone output in the DAC because an amplifier follows it. With the SuperHUB as I²S source and the SuperHEAD as headphone stage it becomes a three-box stack from one maker. If you want a DAC with a headphone output in one unit, look at the Ferrum Wandla HP.
