The curved Tuscan walnut plinth

The Mediterraneo is the deck that made Gold Note known beyond the hi-fi press, and that starts with the plinth: 60 mm of solid Italian walnut, curved along a catenary line. It is reinforced by a 20 mm acrylic board and a 3 mm stainless steel plate, and stands on three anodised aluminium spikes.

The platter is 45 mm of high-density POM, running on a tungsten ball in an 80 mm bearing of hardened carbon steel with a bronze bushing. That bearing length is why rumble measures −80 dB.

We supply the Mediterraneo with a choice of two tonearms. The standard version at €7,140 is a package of the deck and the separately available B-5.2 tonearm, successor to the B-5.1: a 9-inch arm with a straight aluminium wand, running in four micro ball bearings made by GRW in Germany. For €8,290 you get the B-7 Ceramic instead, Gold Note’s top arm in the series, with ceramic ball bearings, also by GRW, and a titanium wand in six sections of different thickness. Both arms have an effective length of 242 mm and 19 mm overhang, and take cartridges weighing up to 15 grams.

Gold Note fits and adjusts the B-7 Ceramic at the factory; in the package, the B-5.2 is supplied separately, not fitted. No cartridge is included — you choose one to match your phono stage. Besides walnut, the plinth also comes in white with a matt black upper plinth or in black lacquer, each at the same prices and with either tonearm. The gold leaf plinth is available with the B-7 Ceramic at €8,990 or as a package with the B-5.2 at €7,840. The photo of the standard version still shows its predecessor, the B-5.1; the white and black ones show the B-7 Ceramic.

For listeners who want a deck that makes a statement in the room without giving anything away technically. The cartridge is your choice — budget for it and the phono stage, as the deck alone is only two thirds of the equation.
