What "Recommended" means here

  • Listened to ourselves. Every product on this page we have listened to over an extended period, compared against alternatives and sold to customers whose feedback we know.
  • Curated by hand. No manufacturer placements, no clearance list, no algorithm. When something better arrives, the old one goes.
  • Across all price classes. A €399 streamer can be a recommendation just as much as a €6,000 headphone – if it sets the standard in its class.

Headphones: open, closed, electrostatic

Among open planar magnetics the range runs from the Hifiman Arya Stealth as an entry into high-end, via the HE1000 Unveiled, to the Susvara – for many of our customers the end of the search. Add to that the characters you need to have heard: the Audeze LCD-X as a studio reference, the HEDDphone D1 with its carbon diaphragm, the Austrian Audio Composer, the Abyss Diana TC Signature and the hand-built Erzetich Charybdis. From the ZMF workshop in Chicago we recommend the Auteur Classic (open) and the Bokeh Closed – our best-selling closed headphone. Amplifiers: tube or solid state

Tube sound without compromising everyday usability comes from the Feliks Audio Echo Vibe as the most affordable entry and the Cayin HA-3A one class up. On the solid-state side stand the Violectric HPA V324 from Germany and, as a reference without caveats, the Zähl HM1. The Warwick Acoustics Bravura System is a special case: a complete electrostatic system of headphone and amplifier, matched to each other.

DACs, streamers and sources

The Ferrum Wandla GSE is the converter we most often plug in ourselves; the Weiss DAC204 and the Rockna Wavelight show what lies beyond. The RME ADI-2 Pro EX combines converter, headphone amplifier and studio tool in one chassis.
