The Caldera is ZMF’s first in-house planar magnetic headphone – developed after years of research for listeners who love planar technicalities but also crave natural tone, authenticity and physical presence. It blends the best of planar technology with the soul of a great dynamic design.

At the heart of the design are two exclusive ZMF innovations: CAMS (Caldera Asymmetrical Magnet Structure), a patented magnet structure that optimizes airflow and diaphragm movement, and ADS (Atrium Damping System), which controls reflections and expands spatial depth. The result is a sound that feels natural and lifelike, yet remains extremely detailed, coherent and open.

Expect deep, powerful bass, rich and harmonious mids, and clear, articulate highs without harshness. The stage is wide and layered – a perfect blend of the immersion of dynamic models and the precision of planar-magnetic engineering.

The Stock Edition is crafted from Zebrawood, a striking hardwood with bold grain patterns in gold and dark tones. Beyond its visual elegance, Zebrawood brings energy and clarity to the presentation. Paired with coffee-gold grilles and hardware, it creates a distinctly luxurious look.

Included are the new Caldera Pads with a fluted geometry that perfectly balances airflow and pressure. Available in multiple materials, they play a key role in the Caldera’s open, highly resolving signature.

What does this mean?

The line marked as target is something you could call the “ideal” curve: a target response derived from research by the Harman group, exploring what kind of headphone tuning tends to be preferred by a broad range of listeners – regardless of age or demographics. This is often referred to as the Harman Target.

From left to right you see sub-bass, bass, mids, and then the curve tilts upward where treble begins. That part of the spectrum is naturally amplified by the shape of the human ear.

Sub-bass sits clearly below the target – common for open headphones, the Harman target includes a strong bass shelf, the bass is slightly reduced. The lower mids are neutral, the presence region around 3 kHz sits clearly below the target. The treble is slightly tuned more relaxed – never sharp, easy over long sessions, and the range above 10 kHz stays on the curve. Left and right channels track each other closely, a sign of careful driver matching.
