The Debut EVO 2 is the current evolution of Pro-Ject’s best-selling series and the successor to the Debut Carbon EVO. It is aimed at anyone getting serious about records for the first time without wanting to learn cartridge alignment first – and at experienced listeners looking for a second deck that does not sound like a compromise.

The 8.6-inch tonearm is made from a single piece of carbon. A tube without joints or transitions picks up fewer resonances than an assembled arm, and carbon damps what remains better than aluminium. The counterweight is TPE-damped, and arm height adjusts to cartridges of different bodies.

The die-cast aluminium platter weighs 1.7 kilograms and is TPE-damped on the inside so it does not ring. Important for later upgrades: it is anti-magnetic, so it also works with MC cartridges, whose magnet systems can struggle on an ordinary steel platter.

The Pick it MM EVO – an MM cartridge from Pro-Ject’s collaboration with Ortofon – comes fitted and aligned at the factory. You unpack the deck, level it and play; no alignment protractor or stylus scale required. Speed changes electronically between 33 and 45 rpm, leaving the belt where it is.
