STAX’s uncompromising flagship electrostatic headphone
The STAX SR-X9000 represents the culmination of decades of electrostatic headphone development and is widely regarded as one of the most technically impressive headphones ever created. With the SR-X9000, STAX set out to elevate transparency, natural timbre and spatial realism to an entirely new level.
At the heart of the SR-X9000 is a completely redesigned electrostatic driver system featuring an ultra-light diaphragm and newly engineered multi-layer electrode structure. This design significantly reduces turbulence and resonance within the driver assembly, enabling exceptionally precise, fast and effortless reproduction of even the smallest musical details.
Sonically, the SR-X9000 combines the holographic openness and micro-detail retrieval expected from a top-tier electrostatic headphone with a remarkably natural, physical and musical presentation. Vocals sound tangible and emotionally immediate, while instruments are reproduced with realistic scale, exceptional depth layering and breathtaking airiness.

One of the most remarkable aspects of the SR-X9000 is its balance. Despite its extraordinary resolution, it never sounds artificially analytical or fatiguing. Instead, it merges technical precision with a fluid, organic and almost speaker-like listening experience.
Bass performance is equally exceptional for an electrostatic headphone. Low frequencies extend deeply while remaining fast, textured and highly controlled, integrating seamlessly into the overall presentation.
Its solid aluminum construction, premium genuine leather earpads and uncompromising craftsmanship further reinforce the absolute flagship status of the SR-X9000. For many STAX enthusiasts, it represents the most complete realization of the electrostatic concept to date.
Like all STAX electrostatic headphones, the SR-X9000 requires a dedicated electrostatic amplifier or energizer with a PRO bias connection.

Frequency response
The line marked as target is something you could call the “ideal” curve: a target response derived from research by the Harman group, exploring what kind of headphone tuning tends to be preferred by a broad range of listeners – regardless of age or demographics. This is often referred to as the Harman Target.
From left to right you see sub-bass, bass, mids, and then the curve tilts upward where treble begins. That part of the spectrum is naturally amplified by the shape of the human ear.
Sub-bass sits far below the target – typical for open electrostatics, the bass is slightly reduced. The lower mids are neutral, the presence region around 3 kHz hits the target. The treble is slightly tuned more relaxed – never sharp, easy over long sessions, above 10 kHz there is a little extra air.
