The closed-back Ori 3.0 in a limited wood edition
Limited edition, available while ZMF makes it. ZMF builds every pair to your configuration in Chicago; delivery takes about 6–10 weeks. The grain and colour of the wood vary from piece to piece and from the photos.
For this LTD edition ZMF makes the closed cups of the Ori 3.0 from Vintage Maple. Vintage Maple is maple that ZMF stains by hand. Maple has been the luthier’s wood for centuries, and the stain settles into the grain like aged varnish: denser growth holds the colour back, softer bands take more of it. The result has real depth, with a tone that shifts from gold to deep amber as the light moves. No two maple blanks take the stain the same way. On the Ori’s sculpted cup the stain gathers where the surfaces turn and lifts across the broad planes.
As standard it comes with the black aluminium chassis and black rods. For a surcharge you can choose the Amber Mg12 chassis with Coffee Gold rods, with leather and a BBB strap or, without the BBB strap, entirely in vegan suede. The Mg12 magnesium chassis is about 34 g lighter than aluminium, painted rather than anodised, and may show wear over time.

Technology and tuning come from the Ori 3.0: an 80 mm planar driver with a 6 µm Kapton diaphragm and 60 Ω, the CAMS magnet structure from the Caldera and ADS damping from the Atrium. The supplied tuning pegs (two sets each, solid and ported) and different pads let you change the tuning without an equaliser.

ZMF includes one pair of pads: Caldera Thick lambskin or, vegan, Caldera suede, both top-perforated only. For a surcharge there is the pad bundle with all four Caldera pads for the Ori. You also choose the plug of the supplied cable: 2.5 mm, 3.5 mm, 4.4 mm, 6.35 mm or 4-pin XLR.
Not sure if the ZMF Ori 3.0 LTD Vintage Maple is the right model for you? In our ZMF Buying Guide we put every model in the lineup head-to-head.
For anyone who wants the fun, engaging ZMF “Origin” sound in a closed-back, modern build – with a bass profile tunable via the pegs – and would like the Ori in a special wood. Ideal if you are after a versatile planar headphone with real character without reaching for the flagship.
